annual convention
For 38 years, the AFA, working with affiliate chapters, has hosted an annual convention. Drawing over 1,000 farriers from the AFA’s 50+ chapters, this annual event focuses on continuing education and features lectures, demonstrations, clinics, discussions, awards, contests, and more. Attendees have the opportunity to further their knowledge of anatomy, to re-examine basics, to learn new techniques, and to examine both theory and practice.
The Convention Coordinating Committee—in conjunction with the AFA Staff, the FIA, the host chapters, and hundreds of volunteers—works year-round to ensure the success of this showcase event.

39TH ANNUAL AFA CONVENTION, PORTLAND 2010!
Make plans now to attend the 39th Annual American Farrier’s Association Convention in Portland Oregon (February 24th – February 27th 2010), where we’ll focus on getting “Back to the Basics.”
Although we’ll be adding more to the schedule, we’ve already got a fantastic selection of topics and lectures lined up! You’ll hear lectures and gain information on reading radiographs, shoeing for the centerline, shoeing the endurance horse, avoiding common shoeing mistakes, understanding trimming techniques, running a business, selecting tools and vehicles, and treating navicular and laminitic horses.
Along with the lectures, we’ll have a number of panel discussions as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of hands-on activities, ranging from making shoe modifications to applying heart bar shoes.
Of course, you won’t want to miss out on the FIA MarketPlace, which opens early this year! So plan for a Wednesday arrival! From the Portland airport, it’s a short and inexpensive (less than $3!) ride on the Tri Max Light-Rail to the Doubletree Hotel and Convention Center. You’ll find the MarketPlace open from 5pm to 8pm, providing you with an early opportunity to see and buy all the new tools and supplies. With the opportunity to win more than $1,000 in daily drawings, you’ll want to visit the MarketPlace each day!
In addition to the educational opportunities and the shopping, you and your whole family can enjoy the beauty of Portland and the surrounding area. From your Doubletree Loyd Center Hotel balcony, you can view the sites, including Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Hood . :: Visit the Doubletree AFA reservation site. ::

SPONSORS FOR 2010
The success of our Annual Convention clearly has to do with the nature of our community. We’ve got a community of wonderful people focused on excellent farriery, people committed to building on our tenets of education, communication, research, certification, and innovation.
But we’ve also got a sense of fellowship and community that shares and builds together. People who realize that all of this happens because of loyalty, volunteerism, and sponsorship.
We ask that you support and promote those who support and promote the AFA. Thank and patronize our AFA sponsors! And remember that it’s never too late to join our growing list of sponsors.
Note: All sponsor lists reflect commitments received up to January 21, 2010. Please add your name to the Sponsor List by contacting the AFA Office or any member of the Convention Coordinating Committee. We appreciate your support !!
